I had the extreme good fortune to know Bucky, to see him in action, and try to put his teachings into practice. 1970 – I am in my early twenties, living in Tokyo, when someone sends me Stewart Brand’s The Whole Earth Catalog. I order all of Bucky’s books and read them in my tiny tatami room. In a world convinced that scarcity is the norm, Bucky is the first person I’ve ever heard who is certain the world holds abundance and by employing design science we can raise the standard of living for everyone. Sitting in a temple in Kyoto, it occurs to me that Bucky may have taken the vow of the bodhisattva.1970 – I am in my early twenties, living in Tokyo, when someone sends me Stewart Brand’s The Whole Earth Catalog.
