She completed residency at Scott and White Memorial Hospital – Texas A&M University Health Sciences Center, in College Station, Texas. Dr. McMurtry has researched and published about emergency medicine and pediatrics and has delivered many lectures and presentations on her areas of expertise in medicine and medical education. She is a fellow of the American College of Emergency Physicians, a member of the American Medical Writers Association and a member of the Walla Walla Valley Medical Society.
